Happily Ever Endings... Swoon by Nina Malkin

Happily Ever Endings... was born out of sheer frustration. You know how when you read a series and you love it but the last book takes a little while to come out and then you sort of forget parts of the novel? That's what these posts are going to serve to remedy. Happily Ever Ending... is a short post about what happened at the ending of each book that is going to be in a series for people who need a quick reminder of what happened in the previous installment. I hope this saves someone else the frustration that I went through!

Swoon by Nina Malkin

Torn from her native New York City and dumped in the land of cookie-cutter preps, Candice is resigned to accept her posh, dull fate. Nothing ever happens in Swoon, Connecticut...until Dice's perfect, privileged cousin Penelope nearly dies in a fall from an old tree, and her spirit intertwines with that of a ghost. His name? Sinclair Youngblood Powers. His mission? Revenge. And while Pen is oblivious to the possession, Dice is all too aware of Sin. She's intensely drawn to him -- but not at all crazy about the havoc he's wreaking. Determined to exorcise the demon, Dice accidentally sets Sin loose, gives him flesh, makes him formidable. Now she must destroy an even more potent -- and irresistible -- adversary, before the whole town succumbs to Sin's will. Only trouble is, she's in love with him.
What do you do when the boy of your dreams is too bad to be true?

After Sin burns down a senior center home, harming many of the elder people and killing several, Dice decides that the only way she can get him to stop is to go back in time and find out who killed Hannah. On Halloween, they call her spirit in a graveyard and she comes in the form of a fox. They get a strong sent of a wolverine which tells Dice where they need to go. Marsh and her boyfriend bring Sin over to Dice's house and together they go to the Wolverine Bar though Marsh isn't at all happy about being there. Sin and Dice go dance on the dance floor and Pen walks in as they transported back into time.

Sin enters Pen's body again and Dice goes as herself, explaining that Sin can't be there in his form because he is already present in that time as himself. They seek out Hannah and find her pregnant at the river. Dice talks a bit to her and really likes her. Later, they follow Hannah to an underground casino where she poses as Lady Luck to get extra cash to aid her and Sin as they try to save money to leave. There, Marsh's ancestor comes in with two French wilder-men and confronts Hannah calling her all manners of names and humiliating her. She sticks up for herself and puts what they consider a curse on him and leave. Following her out, they see Marsh's ancestor and the two men attack Hannah and rape her, finally killing her. Sin jumps out to try and save her and they are transported back.
Arriving in the presence, Sin is no where to be seen but Pen is there. Dice drags her home and they fight but make up. Sin visits Dice that night and Dice asks him to stop but she knows he won't. After he leaves, she decides to go to Marsh's to head him off so he can't kill Marsh's father. She arrives at Marsh's house but her dad is asleep and fine so she slips into Marsh's room. Marsh comes in and Dice can see the bruises on her where he Dad abused her. She tells Marsh to pack, that they are going to stay at her house and goes out to get Marsh's little sisters. As she goes out, she finds Sin. He wakes up Marsh's father and they start to fight. She tries to tell them to stop.
Marsh walks out and shoots her father directly in the chest. Dice tells Sin to leave and they call 911. They tell the officers that it was self defense and have the bruises on Marsh's body as proof. Marsh and her sisters are packed into a van and sent to stay with their Aunt. Sin is at Dice's when she gets home. They sit by a fire and she tells him how her and Ruby decide to drink one night and Ruby made a drink that would kill them both. Ruby died but Dice lived and hasn't felt right since that day. Finally at rest, Sin and Dice are able to be with each other. They spend a blissful night together and when Dice wakes up in the morning, Sin is gone, disappeared without a trace accept for a tiny mark on her hip which doesn't heal or change.
There you have it! All caught up for Swear. Did I miss anything important? Leave it in the comments below.

  2. Such a great idea! Lately, I've just started of by reading the last two chapters of the previous book in a series before diving into the new one to remind myself what happened. Nice to know I'm not alone in feeling like a goldfish with only three seconds of memory!

  3. I feel like I need to give this book another shot. I read it and was so angry at the end that I gave it to a used book store! Now, knowing there is a sequel and things don't end that way....well I may have been unfair to the poor book.
